No heat? Check these first

Still cold? Or a yellow flame, a burning smell or loud bangs? Turn the furnace off and call us. If you smell gas, go outside and call 911 or FortisBC at 1-800-663-9911.

Tune-up timing
When should I book a furnace tune-up?
In late summer or early fall, before the cold sets in. A furnace that sat idle all summer has to run hard on the first cold nights, and that's when a worn igniter or tired blower motor shows itself. A tune-up first means the part gets caught on your schedule.
Permits
Who issues permits for furnace work in Parksville?
It depends on the job, and in Parksville the local rules come from the City of Parksville. The City of Parksville Building department issues building permits and books inspections with 24 hours notice (building@parksville.ca, 250 954 3065). Any gas work is permitted through Technical Safety BC, under a licensed gas contractor like Norm's (licence LGA000404). Rebate and permit details checked October 21, 2026. Programs change, so we confirm at your quote.
Honest advice
When is a furnace repair not worth it?
When the numbers stop adding up. Past 15 years, after back to back repairs, or when the fix costs close to a new unit, replacement is usually better value. We'll show you a new furnace and a heat pump side by side. We will never trick you into buying a new furnace.
Rebates
What heat pump rebates can Parksville homeowners get?
Before you replace a furnace, price a heat pump too, because it's the upgrade most rebates are built around. Parksville homes may also qualify for a local top-up. We confirm current amounts at your quote. Programs need a registered contractor and some need pre-approval, and Financeit can spread the rest into monthly payments. Gas or electric
Natural gas or electric in Parksville?
The City of Parksville community profile lists FortisBC as the natural gas provider, supplying Vancouver Island by undersea pipeline from the mainland. No gas on your street? We still service oil and electric furnaces, and a heat pump is the usual way off oil.
