Heat pump installation in Coombs
Is a heat pump a good fit for a home in Coombs?
Yes, for most homes. Our winters are mild, which is the weather modern heat pumps handle best. A heat pump doesn't burn fuel to make heat. It moves heat from the outdoor air into the house, and runs the other way to cool it in summer. Coombs is a village centre in RDN Electoral Area F with the largest concentration of shops and tourist services in the area, including the Coombs Market. Coombs falls under the Regional District of Nanaimo, Electoral Area F. Our crews work in Coombs and nearby Errington and Parksville. We work out of our shop at 1940 Boxwood Road in Nanaimo.
Signs your heat pump needs replacing
- Repairs two years in a row
- The house takes longer to warm up
- Strange or loud noises from the outdoor unit
- It's 12 years old or more
Not sure? Book a visit and we'll tell you honestly if a repair will do.

Equipment
What brand of heat pump does Norm's install?
Mostly Bryant. Norm's is a Bryant Factory Authorized and NATE dealer and a 2x Bryant Medal of Excellence winner, and we also install Carrier ductless systems. Every install is backed by our no-hassle warranty.
Permits
Who issues permits for a heat pump install in Coombs?
It depends on the job, and in Coombs the local rules come from the Regional District of Nanaimo, Electoral Area F. Building permits in the RDN Electoral Areas are issued by the Regional District of Nanaimo Building and Bylaw Services. Gas work needs a Technical Safety BC gas permit taken out by a licensed gas contractor, and Norm's holds gas licence LGA000404. Rebate and permit details checked October 21, 2026. Programs change, so we confirm at your quote.
Which system
Ducted or ductless heat pump for a Coombs home?
It depends on whether the house has ductwork. Homes with ducts usually get a ducted system that runs through them. Without ducts, a ductless system runs 1 to 5 indoor heads from one outdoor unit, and the install only needs a small hole through the wall.
Ducted
- Whole home through existing ducts
- One thermostat, even comfort
Ductless
- No ductwork needed
- 1 to 5 indoor heads
- Room by room temperature
Rebates
Are there heat pump rebates in Coombs?
It depends on what heats the house now and on your household, so our rebate team checks before anything is booked. Coombs homes may also qualify for a local top-up. We confirm current amounts at your quote. Order matters: some programs need pre-approval before work starts. Financeit monthly payment options can cover what's left. Rebate and permit details checked October 21, 2026. Programs change, so we confirm at your quote.

After the install
What does a new heat pump need after it's installed?
One service visit a year. Many warranties ask for proof of yearly maintenance, and Technical Safety BC recommends it too. Keep about 60 cm clear around the outdoor unit, and keep leaves and snow off the top. A membership plan from $19.99 a month books the visit for you.
Gas or electric
Natural gas or electric in Coombs?
FortisBC supplies natural gas across much of the Mid-Island. Availability depends on your street, and we check your address at the quote. With gas, a dual fuel system pairs the heat pump with a gas furnace for the coldest nights. Without it, the heat pump carries the heating on its own.
