Furnaces in Ladysmith

Can I get my furnace fixed in Ladysmith in the middle of winter?

Yes. A furnace doesn't pick a convenient day to quit, so we answer 250-753-3641 every hour of every day, all winter. Ladysmith is part of our south service area with Cassidy and Cedar, and we tune up and repair the furnace already in your home as well as installing new ones. Our licensed gas fitters find the cause, give you the price before any work, and back the job with a no-hassle warranty.

Signs your furnace needs a repair

  • No heat, or not enough heat
  • Some rooms always too hot or too cold
  • Banging, grinding or squealing
  • Running nonstop, or turning on and off every few minutes
  • Energy bills climbing for no clear reason
  • A yellow or lazy flame instead of crisp blue

A yellow flame can mean the furnace isn't burning cleanly. Turn it off and call us. If you smell gas, go outside and call 911 or FortisBC at 1-800-663-9911.

Tune-up timing

When should I book a furnace tune-up in Ladysmith?

Before the cold sets in. A midwinter breakdown usually means a part that was already wearing out got pushed hard by a cold stretch, after weeks of running every day. The fix is boring but it works: a tune-up in September or early October, when there's time to replace a worn part before you need the heat, and before the holidays when you least want a technician in the house.

Oil and mobile homes

Do you repair oil furnaces and mobile home furnaces in Ladysmith?

Yes. Norm's has serviced mobile homes in Ladysmith, Cedar and the Nanaimo area for decades, and we're fully qualified to repair or replace the oil furnaces and oil tanks many of them still run on. If you'd rather leave oil behind, we can remove the oil tank and convert the home to a natural gas furnace or a heat pump.

Maintenance

Is there a rebate for a furnace tune-up in Ladysmith?

There may be. Eligible residential FortisBC gas customers may qualify for a $50 furnace or boiler maintenance rebate when a licensed gas contractor like Norm's services the equipment. Either way, a yearly service is what Technical Safety BC recommends, and many warranties need proof of it. Our HVAC membership plans, from $19.99 a month, book the tune-up for you and add discounted repairs.

Honest advice

When is a furnace repair not worth it?

When the numbers stop adding up. A furnace under 15 years old with one failed part is usually worth repairing, and that's what we'll recommend. Past 15 years, after repairs two years in a row, or when the repair costs close to a new unit, replacing it is usually better value. A tune-up won't change that; it keeps a sound furnace sound. If replacement makes sense, you'll see a new furnace and a heat pump option side by side, with the rebates each one qualifies for.
