Heat pump installation in Qualicum Beach

Who installs heat pumps in Qualicum Beach?

Norm's does. We're a Bryant Factory Authorized and NATE dealer and a 2x Bryant Medal of Excellence winner. Our own technicians do the install and the maintenance that follows, so one company stands behind it. Qualicum Beach lies along the Strait of Georgia on Vancouver Island's northeastern coast, in the shadow of Mount Arrowsmith. Qualicum Beach falls under the Town of Qualicum Beach. We cover Qualicum Beach along with nearby Parksville and Errington. Our shop is at 1940 Boxwood Road in Nanaimo.

Signs your heat pump needs replacing

  • Repairs two years in a row
  • A spike in your energy bills
  • The house takes longer to warm up
  • It runs on R-22, which is no longer made

How it works

From first visit to first warm night.

  1. Home visit

We look at your current heating, ductwork, electrical and the rooms you want to heat and cool.

  2. Clear options

Good, better and best, with running costs and the rebates each one qualifies for.

  3. Install day

Our technicians install and test the system and tidy up when they're done.

  4. Walkthrough

Thermostat explained, warranty registered, rebate forms in hand.

After the install

What does a new heat pump need after it's installed?

One service visit a year. Many warranties ask for proof of yearly maintenance, and Technical Safety BC recommends it too. Between visits, keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, snow and garden growth. A membership plan from $19.99 a month books the visit for you.

Permits

Who issues permits for a heat pump install in Qualicum Beach?

It depends on the job, and in Qualicum Beach the local rules come from the Town of Qualicum Beach. The Town of Qualicum Beach issues building permits, and work cannot start until the permit is issued. Gas work needs a Technical Safety BC gas permit taken out by a licensed gas contractor, and Norm's holds gas licence LGA000404. Rebate and permit details checked October 21, 2026. Programs change, so we confirm at your quote.

Dual fuel

Can I keep my gas furnace and add a heat pump?

Yes, with a dual fuel system. The heat pump carries most of the year, and the gas furnace takes over on the coldest nights. It's a good fit if your furnace still has years left in it.

Rebates

What rebates can Qualicum Beach homeowners get for a heat pump?

It depends on what heats the house now and on your household, so our rebate team checks before anything is booked. Qualicum Beach homes may also qualify for a local top-up. We confirm current amounts at your quote. Order matters: some programs need pre-approval before work starts. Financeit monthly payment options can cover what's left. Monthly payment options

Can I spread the cost of a heat pump over time?

Yes. Financeit monthly payment options spread what's left after rebates into monthly payments. Rates and terms depend on your approval, and we go over it at the quote.

Gas or electric

Is natural gas available in Qualicum Beach?

FortisBC serves much of the Mid-Island, and whether gas reaches a home depends on the street, so we check your address at the quote. Homes on gas can keep a furnace as backup in a dual fuel setup. Electric and oil homes usually let the heat pump do it all.

FAQ

Your questions, answered

Can you add a smart thermostat?

Yes. Norm's uses ecobee smart thermostats extensively in our HVAC systems.

Do heat pumps work through a Qualicum Beach winter?

Yes. Island winters are mild by Canadian standards, where modern heat pumps do their best work. Dual fuel adds a gas backup if you want one.

Do I need a registered contractor to get a rebate?

Yes. Programs need a registered contractor and some need pre-approval before work starts, so the order matters. Our rebate team checks first.

Which local government covers Qualicum Beach?

Qualicum Beach comes under the Town of Qualicum Beach, in the Regional District of Nanaimo.

Do you also work in Parksville and Errington?

Yes, Parksville and Errington too, from the same Nanaimo shop.
