Since 1971, Norm’s has been showing up for homes across Nanaimo, Parksville, Ladysmith, and beyond with plumbing, heating, and air conditioning services people trust. What started with one man, Norm Laburge, and a truck has grown into a multi-generational family business that still believes in doing things the right way: showing up on time, fixing what’s broken, and treating people right.
We’re not just here to do the job, we’re here to build lasting relationships with our customers, employees, and community.
A Legacy of Service
Our story begins over 50 years ago when our grandfather, Orville Wagar, purchased Norm’s Mobile Service from Norm. Orville was a hardworking, honest man, who gained his customers trust through integrity and fairness. About 12 years later, Orvilles son-in-law, Dave started working for Norm’s. While there, he learned the trade for himself, helping grow the business into a trusted name across Vancouver Island. Today, the third generation — brothers Malcolm, Carson, and Travis — own and lead Norm’s with the same values their grandfather built the company on.
We’re proud to still be 100% family-owned, rooted in the same community we were raised in.

Community Dedication
At Norm’s, we believe businesses should strengthen the communities they live in. That’s why we’ve launched three donation programs that support local families, schools, and nonprofits:
- Tanks for Lunch – Donates meals to students for every hot water tank installed.
- Forward Fridays – We donate a portion of revenue to Forward House, a mental health support centre in Parksville.
- HVAC for Hospice – We install heating and cooling equipment free of charge for local hospice homes.
Since 2020, we’ve donated over $95,000 locally — and we’re just getting started.
We also proudly support numerous minor sports teams, M’akola Housing Society, and more.

We’ve been voted Best Plumbing & Heating Company in Nanaimo every year since 2020. We’re also the only Canadian company to ever receive Bryant Heating’s Medal of Excellence — competing with hundreds of contractors across North America. We’re also proud winners of the Vancouver Islands Bes Big Business award in 2024, and multiple awards from the Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce.
