Gas smell
What if I smell gas?
Leave the house first. Then call FortisBC at 1-800-663-9911 from outside. When FortisBC has made it safe, Norm's gas fitters can do the repair, under licence LGA000404.
Water and sewer
Well water or septic in Cassidy? What changes
Cassidy has no RDN community water or sewer service; most residents draw drinking water from the upper Cassidy aquifer, which the RDN plan calls highly vulnerable to surface contamination. Private domestic wells in RDN Electoral Areas A, B, C, E, F, G and H qualify for the RDN Well Water Testing Rebate. Rural homes on a well have no street shut-off, so the valve inside the house is what stops a leak. Tell us on the phone if you can't find it.

After the emergency
What happens after the leak is stopped?
The plumber explains what failed and the options, with prices, before any repair. Every repair is backed by our no-hassle warranty.
Permits
Who issues permits for emergency repairs in Cassidy?
Sometimes. The Regional District of Nanaimo, Electoral Area A sets the local permit rules for Cassidy. The RDN Building Regulations Bylaw No. 1250 lists a Plumbing Permit among the permits it issues and counts plumbing inside a building as part of the building. Rebate and permit details checked October 21, 2026. Programs change, so we confirm at your quote.
Burst pipes
What do I do about a burst pipe?
Shut off the main water valve, then call. Open a tap at the lowest point in the house to drain what's left in the pipes. Clear the area so the plumber can get straight to the pipe.

Great job by the guys from Norm’s. After finishing my small plumbing job, they spent the balance of the hour checking my water shutoff, got water heater and furnace to make sure they had all my details on file in case of an emergency. A valuable service, thank you!
