Heat pump installation in Cassidy
Switching from oil, baseboards or an old furnace in Cassidy? Here's how a heat pump install works with Norm's.
Heat pump installation in Cassidy
What does it take to put a heat pump in a Cassidy home?
A home visit, an honest look at what heats the house now, and a system sized to your rooms. We look at your ductwork, your electrical panel and the rooms you want to heat and cool. You then see good, better and best options, with running costs and rebates for each. Cassidy is one of the three core communities of RDN Electoral Area A, south of the City of Nanaimo, with the highest density of any RDN Electoral Area village centre. Homes here come under the Regional District of Nanaimo, Electoral Area A. We cover Cassidy along with nearby Cedar. The crew comes out from our Nanaimo shop on Boxwood Road.
Is it time to switch to a heat pump?
- A furnace 15 or more years old
- An old heat pump that struggles in cold snaps
- No cooling for summer heat
- Rooms that never feel comfortable
Each of these changes what a new system costs and what rebates it can get. We check before anything is booked.

Which system
Ducted or ductless heat pump for a Cassidy home?
It depends on whether the house has ductwork. If it does, a ducted heat pump uses those ducts to heat and cool the whole home. Without ducts, a ductless system runs 1 to 5 indoor heads from one outdoor unit, and the install only needs a small hole through the wall.
Ducted
- Whole home through existing ducts
- One thermostat, even comfort
Ductless
- No ductwork needed
- 1 to 5 indoor heads
- Room by room temperature
Permits
Do I need a permit for a heat pump install in Cassidy?
It depends on the job, and in Cassidy the local rules come from the Regional District of Nanaimo, Electoral Area A. Building permits in the RDN Electoral Areas are issued by the Regional District of Nanaimo Building and Bylaw Services. Gas work needs a Technical Safety BC gas permit taken out by a licensed gas contractor, and Norm's holds gas licence LGA000404. Rebate and permit details checked October 21, 2026. Programs change, so we confirm at your quote.
Monthly payment options
Can I spread the cost of a heat pump over time?
Yes. Through our partner Financeit you can see if you pre-qualify in seconds and pay monthly. Rates and terms depend on your approval, and we go over it at the quote.
Rebates
Are there heat pump rebates in Cassidy?
Usually some, and the amount depends on the fuel you're switching from. Our rebate team works it out before any work starts. There's also a local program for Cassidy, listed below. We confirm current amounts at your quote. Programs need a registered contractor and some need pre-approval, and Financeit can spread the rest into monthly payments. Dual fuel
Can I keep my gas furnace and add a heat pump?
Yes, with a dual fuel system. The heat pump does the everyday heating and cooling, and the furnace steps in when it gets really cold. It suits homes with a sound gas furnace and owners who like having a backup.
Gas or electric
Is natural gas available in Cassidy?
FortisBC serves much of the Mid-Island, and whether gas reaches a home depends on the street, so we check your address at the quote. Homes on gas can keep a furnace as backup in a dual fuel setup. Electric and oil homes usually let the heat pump do it all.
