Furnace service in Cedar

Where can I book a furnace tune-up in Cedar?

With Norm's. A licensed gas technician inspects and tests the furnace and explains what they found. A yearly service is what Technical Safety BC recommends, and many warranties ask for it. Cedar is one of the three core communities of RDN Electoral Area A, an area bordered by the City of Nanaimo to the north and the Strait of Georgia to the east. Homes here come under the Regional District of Nanaimo, Electoral Area A. Our crews work in Cedar and nearby Cassidy. We work out of our shop at 1940 Boxwood Road in Nanaimo.

No heat? Check these first

  • An air filter that isn't clogged
  • Fresh batteries in the thermostat, if it uses them
  • The power switch on or near the furnace is on
  • Thermostat set to heat, and above room temperature

Still cold? Or a yellow flame, a burning smell or loud bangs? Turn the furnace off and call us. If you smell gas, go outside and call 911 or FortisBC at 1-800-663-9911.

Honest advice

When is a furnace repair not worth it?

A tune-up keeps a healthy furnace healthy. It won't make a worn-out one young. A furnace 15 or more years old, repairs two years in a row, or a repair close to the price of a new unit usually means replacing it. We'll show you a new furnace and a heat pump side by side. We will never trick you into buying a new furnace.

Permits

Do I need a permit for furnace work in Cedar?

It depends on the job, and in Cedar the local rules come from the Regional District of Nanaimo, Electoral Area A. Building permits in the RDN Electoral Areas are issued by the Regional District of Nanaimo Building and Bylaw Services. The gas side is separate: it goes through Technical Safety BC, and our gas fitters work under Norm's licence LGA000404. Rebate and permit details checked October 21, 2026.
