Mostly Bryant. Norm's is a Bryant Factory Authorized and NATE dealer and a 2x Bryant Medal of Excellence winner, and we also install Carrier ductless systems. Every install is backed by our no-hassle warranty.
Permits
Do I need a permit for a heat pump install in Cedar?
It depends on the job, and in Cedar the local rules come from the Regional District of Nanaimo, Electoral Area A. Building permits in the RDN Electoral Areas are issued by the Regional District of Nanaimo Building and Bylaw Services. The gas side is separate: it goes through Technical Safety BC, and our gas fitters work under Norm's licence LGA000404. Rebate and permit details checked October 21, 2026. Programs change, so we confirm at your quote.
Sizing
Why does heat pump sizing matter so much?
Sizing decides how well a heat pump works for its whole life. An undersized unit struggles in a cold snap, and an oversized one short cycles, which leaves the house uneven and the bills higher. We size each system to the house, its insulation and the rooms you use.
Rebates
What rebates can Cedar homeowners get for a heat pump?
It depends on what heats the house now and on your household, so our rebate team checks before anything is booked. There's also a local program for Cedar, listed below. We confirm current amounts at your quote. Order matters: some programs need pre-approval before work starts. Financeit monthly payment options can cover what's left. Rebate and permit details checked October 21, 2026. Programs change, so we confirm at your quote.

Switching fuels
Can I switch from oil or baseboards to a heat pump in Cedar?
Yes. We convert homes from oil furnaces to heat pumps, including removing the old oil tank. Baseboard homes usually move to ductless heads in the rooms that matter most. What you switch from changes the rebate, so we check that first.
Gas or electric
Is natural gas available in Cedar?
FortisBC serves much of the Mid-Island, and whether gas reaches a home depends on the street, so we check your address at the quote. Homes on gas can keep a furnace as backup in a dual fuel setup. Electric and oil homes usually let the heat pump do it all.
