Profile coming soon.
Lane French is our newest HVAC apprentice. He has previous experience working with his family in Princeton, but made the move to Nanaimo to start fresh. Lane is a quick learner, hard worker, and delivers excellent work. He will be starting school soon, and we look forward to having Lane on our team for years to come.
Hi, I’m Dale, and I’m a Heating Dispatcher at Norm’s.
I’ve been in the plumbing and heating trades since 1995, earned my Red Seal ticket in 1999, the same year I married my amazing wife, Alina, and have been part of the Norm’s team for just over three years. We’ve been happily calling Nanaimo home since around 2012.
I started my apprenticeship in my mid-twenties and quickly fell in love with hands-on problem solving. Plumbing and heating combine technical skill with the satisfaction of helping people, what’s not to love?
I really enjoy working with a team that’s as knowledgeable as it is supportive. Every day is different, and I love being part of making things work smoothly for our customers and coworkers.
Earning my Red Seal ticket was a big milestone, and joining Norm’s has been an exciting chapter, working with a team I respect and learn from every day.
Professional, respectful, and detail-oriented. I make sure customers feel confident and informed while we get the job done right.
When I’m off the clock, you’ll find me reading, curling, camping, or walking our dog, Zack. I also enjoy gaming, it’s a fun way to challenge my problem solving skills and unwind.
I’ve lived in a few places, Kitimat, Terrace, Smithers, Hamilton, Chatham, but moving to Nanaimo was the best decision for us. Life’s good here!
My name is Chad and I’m a Journeyman Plumber.
I’ve been plumbing for 16 years and joined Norm’s in 2022.
I’ve always been good at working with my hands and a plumbing job opened up and the rest is history.
The team and helping customers.
Serving my community and helping train the new plumbers.
I try to be quick and efficient as possible while being thorough and educated the customer.
I’m a father of two, a husband and a reservist in the Canadian armed forces.
I also spent over 10 years as a volunteer firefighter.
I’m Elizabeth! I work with Membership Sales, Dispatching, and assisting Malcolm in Marketing.
I have been at Norms since May of 2025.
My dad has worked in the HVAC industry for my whole life. I never thought I would myself but when I came across a position for marketing at Norms, I had a “let’s give it a shot” moment. I got into marketing in an off chance scenario also. I was in school originally to become a physiotherapist because I love helping people, I took marketing as an elective and before you know that was then what I pursued. I love learning about how people think and why they make decisions they make.
Getting to work with such a helpful/caring team.
I am currently pursuing my bachelor’s degree in marketing and management so I would have to say that. I am graduating in spring 2026.
Although I don’t work in customers’ homes, I love to help over the phone with any questions they may have. Gaining relationships with clients is very important to me, so listening to their needs and hearing stories is a priority for me.
I love spending time with my friends and trying out new activities. Recently I tried out ski doos and surfing for the first time, both a blast. I also love going to concerts, ANY of them, but particularly country ones.
My name is Josh, and I’m a 2nd year plumbing apprentice at Norm’s.
I’ve been working in the trades for about 7 years, with the last 2 years focused on plumbing.
I originally started out in restoration and hazmat, where I worked closely with many different trades. Plumbing stood out as the one I’d enjoy the most, and it gave me the opportunity to transition out of hazmat work and into something more hands-on and rewarding.
What I enjoy most about my job is working with my hands and being part of a strong, supportive team.
I’m proud of becoming more independent in my career.
When I’m in a customer’s home, my goal is to walk away proud of my work and to leave the space better than I found it.
Outside of work, you’ll usually find me fishing, camping, golfing, dirt biking, or walking my two dogs—and of course, petting my cat.
I’m originally from the Yukon, so I can confidently say it’s a lot warmer living on the island.
Bio coming soon.
My name is Josh I’m a journeyman plumber.
I’ve been with norms for 3 yrs.
I was a crane operator and was offered a job working for my fathers plumbing company.
I enjoy trouble shooting problems and working as a team.
Finishing up schooling.
I usually ask what problem they are dealing with and work off of that.
I enjoy camping, 4 wheeling & concerts.
Two wheels are better than four.
My Name is Mason and I’m an HVAC apprentice with Norms.
I started working in the trades in 2020, I joined the Norms team in January of 2025.
I got into the trades because I like working with my hands and solving problems using tools and practical skills.
I enjoy the team culture most. Everyone genuinely supports each other to improve daily and deliver exceptional service to every customer.
I’m proud of how much I’ve learned as an apprentice in residential HVAC and excited to become a journeyman while continuing to grow my skills over the years to come.
My approach is to treat each customers home like my own, delivering high quality workmanship and leaving the space spotless.
When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time outdoors with my girlfriend and our dog or working on home renovation projects.
I also have fun supporting junior football in Nanaimo; I’ve spent time coaching and love attending home games to cheer the Raiders on.
Kris Upton HVAC Manager? Vice President of operations? 😛
I’ve been working in the trade for 21 years and 3 years at Norms.
I started off in Mechanical Engineering and left that world for a more hands on approach, through engineering I was emersed in ammonia refrigeration and working on large capacity refrigeration equipment and it sparked a passion in the refrigerant world which I have pursued ever since.
What’s not to like working here, I enjoy the core values of Norms, how they support the community, each other, value and emphasize the continual pursuit of education and most importantly that they are one of the only companies with unwavering principles to do things right and continuously better themselves on this. While remaining family owned with real family values in a world where it seems everyone else is sacrificing these values to be more corporate and chase profit over doing what’s right first and foremost.
I hold more tickets and certifications in this industry than anyone else I have ever met. Continued pursuit of education and being the best at what I do. Numerous awards and recognition for my achievements!
Reflecting all of our shared core values, while building a lifelong relationship centered and grounded with transparency, trust, and knowledge. When designing a system doing so in a custom tailored way, building and designing a system around the homes infrastructure and engineered heat load. In an all other aspects with unwavering commitment to being the best and providing the best service, communication and commitment to everyone.
Family – It’s why I do what I do. Travel when I can, home renos and concerts.
I’m one of the rare people who loves his job and doesn’t look at it like work. Happy to share my experience and knowledge with anyone.
